This Earth Day...

Sometimes, when it comes to tackling climate change it feels like so much is needing done, it's almost impossible to take that first step...or even to just relax for a bit while being bombarded with terrible news.
I saw an article in Positive News that was looking to give some advice on that front - here's the gist, with some images of the FLC K9 to help you relax.

Completing something like baking a banana loaf (how very 2020!), fixing that split in your favourite trousers, or even just chucking down a quick journal entry can make you feel productive, and more positive about the future.
Hell even just making your bed in the morning has amazing benefits.

Don't let the negativity suck you in - learn some things, inform yourself, then cut it off before it drags you down.
Limiting time on social media is an obvious one, but even getting into a spiral about the details of your local recycling, or bemoaning the state of the world while out with friends can become a hard habit to shake.

It can feel super weird to make new friends as an adult, but it's really rewarding if you manage to push through the initial cringe.
It's such a great feeling to chat to people who feel the same about wanting to be a positive force in society - it can also be really inspiring.

Some of these new friends may inspire you to join them in their own projects and activities...or to create your own. Whether a political group, a community garden or classes at the local college, getting directly involved will take you places you don't expect. In a good way!

This one might feel a bit vague but it could also literally be as easy as planting a seed. It's that first wee step that gives you hope for the future, whether that's the anticipation of the first sight of leaves coming out of the earth, or it's a night class that teaches you how to batch cook and use up leftovers, or it's booking some counselling sessions to share your struggles with someone who will fully listen, taking the first step can be as small as a seed, an application form or a phone call (who calls these days? Just email 😊)

It's so easy to feel overwhelmed with the enormity of the challenges, but you're already on the right path (not as common as you might think!) by caring at all. Give yourself a break, make it as simple as possible, just do your best.
The crux of it is: fill your life with good people and balanced news, find the small ways to bring yourself joy, and take small steps to do what you can where you can.
You've got this.
Thanks for reading :)
