Launched in November 2021, Falling Leaf Clothing is an affordable, environmentally and socially conscious clothing and accessories brand with a Scottish photography twist. Designed in Stirling, their hoodies and t-shirts are sustainably and ethically made and feature founder Lindsay's own photos taken on her motorcycle travels around Scotland. The aim of the brand is to showcase the beauty of Scotland and its wild landscapes while creating unique, sustainable clothing that doesn't cost the Earth.

Lindsay Galloway-Hall, founder of Falling Leaf Clothing, said:

“I'm absolutely thrilled! As a 'solopreneur' working in my own little bubble most of the time, it feels unreal to be nominated, far less actually win, alongside all of these other fantastic brands across Scotland and the rest of the UK. It's a real boost to all of us to be recognised for the hard work we've put in to get here. It's great to see so many new businesses emerging in this country despite all of the current challenges, particularly with so many of them having a sustainable focus like ours at Falling Leaf. This is the future of our economy, and it's really exciting to be a part of it.”

The UK StartUp Awards were established to highlight the success of startups across ten UK nations and regions, and to celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs in all sectors of the economy.

Supported nationally by Starling Bank, Airwallex, Chime Agency, Development Bank of Wales, EvaBuild, ForrestBrown, GiftRound, GS1 UK, Join Talent, OVHcloud, Project Simply, ScoreApp, SFC Capital and Welsh Government, Harriet Rees, CIO at Starling Bank says:

“Turning an idea into a successful business takes a lot of courage and dedication. Congratulations to Falling Leaf Clothing on winning their category in Scotland and making it to this year’s UK national final. Start-ups need certainty to plan ahead. It’s great to see so many thrive, especially in these challenging economic times.”

There were nearly 41,000 new firms created in Scotland in 2023, an increase of 12% on the previous year and according to Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, creator of the awards, this demonstrates the growing importance of entrepreneurs to the Scottish economy. He is also excited that the awards are, yet again, recognising the best new firms and celebrating the amazing entrepreneurial talent from every corner of Scotland.

He said:

“Start-ups are the life of any economy and that is especially true in Scotland where new businesses are contributing to job creation, innovation, and prosperity across the whole of this entrepreneurial nation. It’s been an honour and a pleasure to read the stories of those Scottish founders who have spotted the opportunity and taken the risk to launch their own venture. All of the Scottish winners have demonstrated that they deserve to win their categories and I’m looking forward to having the ‘best of the best’ from Scotland competing at the UK final later this year”.

As a regional winner in their category, Falling Leaf Clothing will now progress to the UK Startup Awards final being held at Ideas Fest on September 12th, dubbed ‘the Glastonbury for Entrepreneurs’.
